Getting Your Together AI API Key
Used for: 20+ image generation models including FLUX.2, FLUX.1, Imagen 4, Ideogram 3, HiDream, Wan2.6, SDXL, and more
Cost: Pay-per-megapixel. No free tier, but often the lowest cost per image for high-volume use.
Sign-up required: Yes — credit card and minimum $5 deposit required.
Step 1 — Create a Together AI Account
- Go to api.together.ai.
- Click Sign up using email, Google, or GitHub.
- Verify your email address when prompted.
Step 2 — Add a Payment Method
- Click your profile icon → Settings → Billing.
- Click Add payment method and enter your credit card details.
- Make a minimum deposit of $5 USD to activate your account. This credit is applied to your usage.
- Optionally set a spend limit under Billing → Usage limits.
Step 3 — Create an API Key
- In the left sidebar, click API Keys.
- Click Create API Key, give it a name (e.g. PF Create).
- Copy the key immediately — it is only shown once.
Step 4 — Add the Key to PF Create
- Go to your Services page.
- Paste your key into the Together AI API Key field.
- Click Save.

When to Use Together AI
Together AI is the best choice when you want access to the widest model variety, the lowest per-image cost at high volume, or specific capabilities like text-in-image (Ideogram 3), image editing (FLUX.1 Kontext), or Google-quality photorealism (Imagen 4 Ultra) without using your Gemini quota. FLUX.1 Schnell at $0.003/MP is the cheapest way to iterate quickly on draft ideas.
Troubleshooting
Key shows as invalid — Copy the key again from Together AI’s API Keys page. Ensure there are no leading or trailing spaces.
Requests fail with “insufficient credits” — Your account balance has run out. Go to Billing in your Together AI dashboard and top up your credit.
Model not available — Check api.together.ai/models and filter by Image for the current catalogue.
Rotating a key — Go to API Keys, delete the old key, and create a new one. Update it on your Services page.
